Kulula flies to Port Elizabeth to escape George berg wind

GEORGE NEWS - The pilot of a Kulula plane bound for George on Wednesday morning, abandoned the landing at the last moment because of unusually strong cross winds at the airport.

He then headed to Port Elizabeth where he landed the plane in calmer conditions.

Passengers was given the choice to make their own way to George or to wait for the wind to calm down before Kulula could make a second attempt to drop them off in George.

George Airport Manager, Brenda Vorster said they had received a weather warning from the South African Weather Service. “Passenger safety is uppermost in the pilot’s mind. In this case nature interfered and safety always comes before time tables.”

Gale force winds in the area on election day caused damage to power lines, trees lost branches and buildings in George were damaged. No injuries were reported.
