Closing of Mossel Bay Weather Observation Blog (14 May 2015)

Need I say anything?  I have decided to close this blog with immediate effect.  For several weeks I have been struggling to update this blog via my ADSL Internet subscription.  My ADSL line has been so sporadic that it is not worthwhile to continue this blog.  The ADSL line would just die at any time and then come back a day or two later.  No use in contacting Telkom as we all know by now that it takes hours to get a service from their call centre.

Many of our readers should by now have noticed that very little real time weather observation posts were posted to the Blog.  Only a few weather prediction posts were daily added. Weather is a real time "product".  No use to try and update a blog after severe weather has already occurred.    I have therefor decided that I cannot render a competent weather observation service due to Telkom ADSL downtime and Eskom power issues.  I looked at several other options but due to the lack of funding and high costs it is not worth while to go the more expensive route seeing that I personally bear all the costs to upkeep this Blog.

It is my belief that if you render a service to a community then it must be done properly and effectively.  You cannot render a "half-baked" service especially when it comes to severe weather where lives might be in danger.  I am sure many will understand that either you run a good service or no service at all, there is no in between service.

I would like to thank all those roll players who through the years allowed me to publish many a article, prediction, weather forecast etc.  Your inputs are highly appreciated.

ʼn Stormstelsel oor Carolina in Mpumalanga het glo Vrydagoggend ʼn skouspelagtige tornado veroorsaak. Cas en Marie Joubert was by die Nooitgedachtdam toe hulle die tornado gesien en afgeneem het. Hul seun Nico het dit op sosiale media gelaai. Elizabeth Webster, ʼn weervoorspeller van die Suid-Afrikaanse weerdiens in Pretoria, het aan Maroela Media gesê hulle het berigte van die tornado ontvang, maar kan nie bevestig of daar wel een was nie, aangesien hul radar nie so ver strek nie. “Ons kan wel bevestig dat daar ʼn stormstelsel in die betrokke gebied voorgekom en sedertdien in kleiner stelsels opgebreek het,” het sy gesê. MSBWX: Tot op hede is nog geen berigte van skade ontvang nie.  Bostaande is net weereens 'n bewys van hoe belangrik dit is om die weer te monitor.  Enige storm kan groot skade en lewensverlies veroorsaak.  Dit is derhalwe van kardinale belang dat weerwaarnemers inligting deurstuur aan @SAWXREP op Twitter sodat die publiek op hoogte gehou kan word van intense weerstoestande.

Storm Observation Images and Video: Gauteng (24 October 2014)

Yesterday was an interesting storm observation day for parts of Gauteng. "Tornado, Twisters, Whirlwinds, Land spouts, etc.   This is how observers described the "unusual" weather phenomena.  I say unusual because thus far this years storm season started with "strange" weather events like, small hail but loads of it, a large dust storm that started in the Bloemfontein and moved over the Gauteng area, loads of lighting and thunder but very little rain, veld fires started by lightning in areas not prone "lightning fires". Adding yesterdays observations and looking at a 15 year period of the start of a storm season then the 2014/2015 season  is definitely more interesting than others.  It would be interesting to see what mother nature throws at us as the storm season unfolds. This afternoon should yet be another interesting afternoon weather wise in parts of  South Africa.  Keep those cameras at hand you might just observe and interesting weather phenomena.   In the meantime here is a few images and a video of  yesterday's storm observations.  SAWXREP and Mossel Bay WX Observations would like to thank each and every observer for posting observations.
