SA National Weather and Disaster Observations: 15 December 2014 04h00 SAST - MSBWX

SAWS SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS: 

WARNINGS: Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in places over the central interior of the Northern Cape, the West Coast District and Cape Metropole.  

WATCHES: Heavy rain is expected over northern and western parts of Kwa-Zulu Natal as well as the south-eastern parts of Mpumalanga.  

SPECIAL WEATHER ADVISORIES: ------ Nil  

MSBWX National Severe Weather Observations:  The Pietermatizburg, Durban and surrounding areas experienced an intense lightning storm last night.  No reports of serious damage were received.  Here is a few lightning images courtesy of Storm Report SA





MSBWX General Weather Observations: Cool, warm to very hot conditions expected today over parts of SA. Thunderstorms and rain showers can be expected in parts of  Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West, Free State,Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and Kwazulu Natal.  Light rain can be expected in areas of the Western Cape along the South Coast. Today could once again make for some interesting weather observations in areas of the country. The possibility of severe weather cannot be excluded. Heavy rain, hail and flash flooding could be on the cards today and tomorrow morning.  Observers should keep a close eye on the weather for the next 24 hours.  Image: NCEP
