SA National Weather and Disaster Observations: 2 November 2014 04h00 SAST - MSBWX

SAWS SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS:

WARNINGS: ------ Nil

WATCHES: Heavy falls are possible in places in the Free State and over the south-western parts of North West province.

SPECIAL WEATHER ADVISORIES: An intense cut-off low pressure is expected to move over the western parts of the country on Monday, affecting the Western, Northern and Eastern Cape Provinces and the Free State, resulting in possible heavy falls of rain which could lead to localised flooding as well as possible severe thunderstorms in places.

MSBWX National Severe Weather Observations:  Forecast models show a fairly intense cut=off low developing over the South Western Cape on Monday the 3 November 2014. There are still great uncertainty regarding the exact position and intensity of rainfall and where it might occur however it would appear at this stage that the Overberg and Southern Cape could be in for the brunt. The public should take note that a cut-off low is a significant weather event  which could result in severe weather bringing with it gale force damaging winds, heavy rain, flash flooding and severe thunderstorms with hail.  Cut-off lows are notorious for causing significant damage in the past in South Africa.  We need to keep an eye on this weather system at all times.  MSBWX and SAWXREP  will continue to monitor any further developments relating to this weather system and will issue subsequent updates as the system develops and intensifies.
