At 13h50, Sunday, 09th November, NSRI Wilderness duty crew were activated following reports from EC Government Health EMS that they were responding to a drowning accident at George Dam.
NSRI Wilderness duty crew dispatched rescue swimmers and towed the sea rescue craft OSCARS RESCUE which was launched on the scene.
On arrival on-scene NSRI joined Police who were conducting a search along the dam bank searching for 3 persons reportedly missing on the South Western side of George Dam.
A surface water search was conducted by the sea rescue craft and NSRI rescue swimmers conducted free dive searches including a sweeping line free dive search in an effort to find the 3 people who had reportedly disappeared under water.
NSRI rescue swimmers recovered three bodies from under water during free dive searches conducted in the area of where eye-witnesses had reported the three people, a 26 year old male, a 13 year old female and a 9 year old male, to have disappeared. They are from George.
All 3 persons were declared deceased by EMS paramedics on the scene and the bodies of all 3 have been handed into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services.
Police have opened an inquest docket and it is not known to NSRI what led to the persons going missing under water.
