MSBWX General Weather Observations: Cool, cold to warm conditions expected today over parts of SA. Isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers can be expected in parts of Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Eastern Cape, Western Cape and Kwazulu Natal Provinces. There is still a great deal of uncertainty as to the timing, area and amount of rainfall expected. The latest satellite image show a clock wise movement of the large cloud mass situated south of the country. It is currently pushing clouds over land that could result in heavy rain. However a strong (33km/h) SW wind is blowing in Mossel Bay and this could push the system out eastwards toward the ocean. This is what makes cut-off lows so unpredictable and dangerous. One never know what to expect where and when. Let's keep and eye on this system!
Finally: A WATCH was issued for severe thunderstorms yesterday in parts of Gauteng. Many weather observers were quite pessimistic about the watch issued by the SAWS. A severe thunderstorm with hail did occur at @ 23:10 in the Vereeniging Vaal Triangle area. Image: Sonja Enslin
