SA National Weather and Disaster Observations: 22 August 2014 04h00 SAST - MSBWX

National Severe Weather Observations:  A strong  to near gale force W/SW wind blew throughout the night in the Mossel Bay area.  Observations indicate that this wind is expected to continue between Cape Agulhas and Port St Johns today and speeds of  between 35 - 60 km/h can be expected in areas along the coast.

General Weather Observations:  The latest forecast predictions reflect the possibility of light rain in parts of the Eastern Cape, Western Cape and Kwazulu Natal.  There is a  20% chance of thundershowers over parts of  eastern  Kwazulu Natal.  Once again due to dry and strong wind conditions an extremely high fire danger  can be expected today in places over the central parts of the interior.

 National Disaster Observations:   An earthquake registering 4.6M on the Richterscale was recorded this moring in the Orange Farm area near Johannesburg at around 01: 14.  The earthquake was felt as far south as the Vaal and parts of the Free Sate as well as the East Rand.

The US Geological Survey says a 4,6 magnitude was recorded in SA. Epicentre 12km W of Orange Farm.
