GEORGE NEWS - The Garden Route Dam is 99,65% full and water is still running in.
This follows heavy rainfall since Monday in the Eden District.
According to Gerhard Otto, the manager of the Eden District
Municipality's Disaster Management, 55mm of rainfall was measured
yesterday morning in Riversdale and Ladismith with about 20mm in George
at the same time. The front moved east yesterday afternoon - 40mm of
rainfall was measured in George and surrounding areas.
Otto said all emergency plans were in place and all seven
B-municipalities and emergency services were on high alert. "We opened
the river mouths, but we did not have to activate any emergency plans.
Everything was under control," Otto said.
