A well developed upper air trough is once again noticeable on prediction charts the last few days. Thunderstorms are possible over parts of the Southern Cape/Garden Route area this afternoon and evening but are more likely over parts of the interior.

A developing cut-off low pressure system and cold-core upper trough were noticeable to the west of Cape Town via yesterday's Eumetsat Satellite Image. This morning the trough is visible over landl and will pick up warm and moist tropical air which will result in instability and possible thundershowers along the interior moving towards parts of the Southern and Eastern Cape coast
.
The system will be accompanied by strong winds towards the western and central parts of the country with rough to very rough seas along the south west and south coasts. Gauteng can expect the formation of thunderstorms on Friday, 25 October 2013.  The cut-off  low pressure system is expected to move to the south central areas of the country on Saturday, 26 October 2013 while most showers and thundershowers will be confined to the eastern parts of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu Natal. In these areas there is also a threat of heavy showers in places.
