GEORGE NEWS - Each airport in South Africa is required to conduct a full-scale emergency exercise every 2 years.
George Airport's last emergency exercise was held in October 2011.
A simulation is scheduled to take place at the George Airport on
Wednesday, 4 September. Proper planning has been done to test the
operational readiness and the execution of contingency plans of those
involved.
The emergency services involved in the simulation include the following:
SAPS, Fire and Rescue Services, Forensic Pathology Services, Traffic
(Local and Provincial), Law Enforcement, medical services (including all
hospitals and ambulance services), Working on Fire, ATC and ACSA.
The public is requested not to flock to the airport on the day of the
exercise as this may hamper the planned emergency operations.
Normal operations at the airport will continue as usual.
