#SAWeather and #Disaster #Observations South Africa : 16 January 2015 04h00 SAST - MSBWX

SAWS SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS: 
 
WARNINGS: -------Nil 

WATCHES: Severe thunderstorms are expected from the afternoon over the western interior of KwaZulu-Natal. 

SPECIAL WEATHER ADVISORIES: Hot and humid conditions will result in extremely uncomfortable conditions over the north-eastern parts of KwaZulu Natal. 

MSBWX National Severe Weather Observations:  Once again heavy rain in parts of Gauteng lead to flooding of low lying areas.  Several cars got stuck in flood water after drivers tried to drive through flooded low level bridges/ravines/flood water.  Images: Twitter via TrafficSA





A cloudburst resulted in the closure of  Meiringspoort Pass between De Rust and Klaarstroom on Wednesday (14/1/2015) evening. The pass experienced a flash flood after 64mm of rain fell in less than 45 minutes. (More on this in a separate posting)

Yesterday (15/1/2015) was once again a very hot and humid day over parts of the Western Cape and Karoo. Much cooler weather is expected today with a cold front moving in from the West. Image:  Weather Underground


MSBWX General Weather Observations:  Cool, warm to very hot conditions expected today over parts of SA. Thunderstorms and rain showers can be expected in parts of  Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West, Free State, Eastern Cape and Kwazulu Natal. Scattered showers and rain can be expected along the South Coast today.

MSBWX National Disaster Observations:  Several veld fires were again burning in parts of the Western Cape yesterday. Resident in the Onrus/Hermanus area had to evacuate their homes last night. Thankfully rain assisted the fire fighting services to contained and extinguish some of the fires.
