Heavy rain (possible severe weather) expected in parts of the Western- Southern- and Eastern Cape ( Period: 23 - 27 March 2014)

Prediction charts reflect a fairly intense weather system to move in over the South Western Cape by late Sunday evening bring heavy to moderate rainfall to parts of the Western- and Southern Cape and spreading later towards parts of the Eastern Cape.  The possible development of a cut-off low cannot be ruled out.  There is still a great deal of uncertainty as to the exact location and intensity of this event but up to 60mm of rain is forecast for areas.  As we all should know by now it is very hard to predict the exact outcome of  cut-off lows but they normally result in heavy rain, flooding and extensive damage.

The current  rainfall prediction for parts of the Southern Cape reflect rainfall of between 28 - 60 mm.  This precipitation is expected to fall on Monday evening/Tuesday morning.  Please note that the above predictions can change at any time.  The current GFS Forecasts also reflect the possibility of a tropical storm developing in the Mozambique channel later next week.  It is still to early to indicate the exact movement of this tropical disturbance or whether it will in fact develop into a tropical storm.  Needless to say that we will have to keep an eye on the weather this coming week. I expect some very interesting weather for the Western- and Eastern Cape this coming week.

Updates will follow as this system develop further.- MSBWX
