SAWS SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS:

WARNINGS: --------- Nil.

WATCHES: -------- 1. Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the northern Free State, western half of the the North West Province, Gauteng, extreme south - western parts of Mpumalanga as well as the western parts of KwaZulu - Natal. 2. Heavy rain leading to localised flooding is expected over the eastern parts of the Central Karoo as well as the Eden District of the Western Cape at first.

MSBWX National Severe Weather Observations: 154 Fires detected over the past 24 hours in South Africa. Several fires were raging in the Swartberg and Outeniqua Mountains last night.  These fires were started by lightning.  Please contact your nearest fire fighting unit, Working on Fire or Local Fire Fighting Service when fires are observed. The earlier a fire is detected to better the chances of extinguishing the fire.

MSBWX General Weather Observations: Cool,  warm to hot conditions expected today over parts of SA. Isolated  thundershowers can be expected in parts of the North West, Free State,  Northern Cape, Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Kwazulu Natal. Heavy rain leading to localized flooding is expected over the eastern parts of the Central Karoo as well as the Eden District of the Western Cape.  Reports of heavy rain received from Graaff Reinet and Bathurst in the Eastern Cape.
