SA National Weather and Disaster Observations: 18 September 2014 04h00 SAST - MSBWX

SAWS SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS: 

WARNINGS: --------- 1. Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in places over Free State, North West Province, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu Natal. 2. Heavy rain is expected over the mountainous areas of Cape Metropole, Overberg and south - weste rn parts of the Cape Winelands. 3. Localised flooding is expected in places over Cape Metropole, Overberg and south - western parts of the Cape Winelands. 4. Gale force westerly to north - westerly winds of 65km/h is expected between Table Bay and Plet tenberg Bay, spreading to Port Alfred as well as in places over Western Cape interior, southern interior of the Northern Cape and western and northern interior of the Eastern Cape. 

WATCHES: --------  High seas with wave heights in excess of 6m i s expected between Table Bay and Port Alfred subsiding on Friday. 

SPECIAL WEATHER ADVISORIES: --------------------------- 1. An intense cold front system is expected to affect the Western Cape as well as western and central parts of the Northern Cape Provinces from Wednesday evening till Friday. The public and small stock farmers are advised that gale force winds, strong to gale force interior winds, heavy rain, flooding, very cold c onditions, snowfalls and rough seas can be expected. 2. Extremely hot conditions are expected in places in the lowveld of Mpumalanga and Limpopo. 3. Hot and humid conditions will result in extremely uncomfortable conditions over the eastern p arts of KwaZulu Natal

MSBWX National Severe Weather Observations:   490 Fires detected over the past 24 hours in South Africa.  Please contact your nearest fire fighting unit, Working on Fire or Local Fire Fighting Service when fires are observed.  The earlier a fire is detected to better the chances of extinguishing the fire.

MSBWX General Weather Observations: An intense cold front system has made landfall.  Gale force winds, strong to gale force interior winds, heavy rain, flooding, very cold conditions, snowfalls, runaway veld fires, possible wind damage and rough seas can be expected. Hot to extremely hot weather can be expected over parts of  Mpumalanga and Limpopo.  Isolated thunderstorms can be expected in parts of the North West, Western Cape, Northern Cape, Free State and Eastern Cape.  Stormy winter conditions is  back in the Western and Southern parts of the country while summer is experienced in Mpumalanga and Limpopo. Moderate weather over the rest of the country.  Keep safe, dry and warm!
