SA National Severe Weather Observations: 18 July 2014 04h00 SAST - MSBWX

Gale force wind and rough seas observed from Cape Point to Port St Johns. Very rough seas with wave heights from 6 to 9m is expected between Lamberts Bay and  Port St Johns today.  Poor visibility and fog patches observed via satellite between Cunene River and Alexander Bay this morning and moderate visibility due to rain  observed between Lamberts Bay and Port St Johns at times. The risk of veld fires is still high. Current observations indicate that the veld are very dry in many areas and that strong to gale force winds are blowing in areas. These conditions could and did leed to runaway veld fires.  Fires detected over the past 24 hours in South Africa :   438


Please report any veld fires to your nearest Fire Fighting Unit, Fire Station or Working on Fire.  MSBWX advise that people should refrain from making open fires during these conditions.
