Approaching Cold Front: Western-, Northern Cape and Southern Cape (25 - 28 June 2014)

Another cold front is approaching the Western Cape, which is due to make landfall later this evening. (25 June 2014)

Light to moderate rain (5 - 20 mm)  is expected as depicted by the charts underneath.  Rain is also expected to fall in parts of the Karoo during the forecast period.

Strong NW  wind (10 - 30 km/h NW later turning WSW) can be expected in the coastal areas.

The chances of snow is rather slim. A slight dusting might just be on the cards on the high mountains of the Western Cape and Southern Cape if freezing level drop to around1200 meters in areas. This is currently not conclusive.

As per usual nice warm weather before the front with cold weather behind this front.  Fire Danger Index: With over 300 veld fires recorded in the past 24 hours in South Africa a warning has been issued by the SAWS for a high fire danger in areas.  Here are the latest fire index.
